Help and FAQ

Quick answers on installing Psst, setting up your team and using it in Google Meet. Can't find what you need? Write to help@psst.team.

Getting started

What do I need?

Chrome 116 or later on a computer, Google Meet open in the browser and a Google account. It doesn't work on phones, or on Zoom or Teams.

How do I install it?

From psst.team, with "Add to Chrome", which opens the Chrome Web Store. Then sign in with your Google account from the welcome page or from the Psst icon.

How do I set up my team?

In the dashboard, under "Your team", add each teammate's email. They get an invitation; once they accept and have the extension, you see each other in any Meet. Whoever creates the team is its admin, and only admins can invite.

Go to the dashboard
Do my teammates need Psst too?

Yes: each of them installs the extension, signs in with their Google account and accepts the invitation. "Your team" shows who is still missing the extension.

Can I be on more than one team?

No, each person belongs to one team. Accepting an invitation to another team takes you out of yours; if you are its only admin and there are other people in it, name another admin first.

Sending a Psst

How do I send a Psst?

In the call, a grey Psst shows up next to the name of each teammate. Click their tile (or press Alt+P), pick one person or several, type up to 140 characters and press Enter. Shift+Enter adds a line and Esc closes without sending.

What does my teammate see?

Your message over your camera, on their screen, for 7 seconds (it pauses while their mouse is over it). They answer with 👍, 👎 or "Reply", and you see their answer over their camera. No sound and no history: nothing is left afterwards.

It says "Not seen: Meet isn't on their screen".

A Psst only shows if your teammate has the Meet tab in view. If not, it is dropped and you are told: it is not kept for later.

Screen sharing

What happens if I share my screen?

If either of you presents a screen, window or tab from Meet, Psst hides before the stream starts, and nobody can write to whoever is presenting: their Psst turns off and says "presenting".

What if I share from Zoom, OBS or another app?

Psst can't detect it. Press Alt+Shift+P (safe mode): it hides everything at once and your teammates see you as "Presenting". The same shortcut turns it off; you can change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Does it show up in recordings or transcripts?

No. A Psst is drawn only on the recipient's screen: it is not part of your video, nor of Meet's recordings or transcripts.

Privacy

Do you store my messages?

No. They are end-to-end encrypted between browsers; the server only relays them and never stores them, not even encrypted.

Read the privacy policy
What does the extension read?

It only runs on meet.google.com. It doesn't read the meeting's chat, audio, video or transcripts: only the names and position of the tiles, to know where to show a Psst, and whether you are presenting.

How do I turn off usage metrics?

Psst icon → "Options", then untick "Send usage metrics". They never include message text, names or emails.

How do I delete my account?

Dashboard → "My account" → "Delete my account". Access ends right away and your data is fully erased within 30 days.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the Psst next to my teammate.

Check, in this order:

  1. You both installed Psst and signed in.
  2. You are on the same team (the dashboard shows it).
  3. You are in the same call, in Chrome on a computer.
  4. Their camera tile is visible.
  5. Reload the Meet tab.
The Psst icon says "Meet URL not recognized".

Psst stays off in that call. Click "Copy diagnostic" and send it to help@psst.team so we can add that address.

How do I uninstall it?

At chrome://extensions → Psst → "Remove". A page opens that takes that browser off your team and asks why, if you'd like to tell us.

Pricing and companies

How much does it cost?

It's free during the beta. After that, USD 4.99 a month per team (or USD 49 a year), with unlimited people. We'll let you know before charging anything.

Can I install it for the whole company?

Yes, on Google Workspace: an admin installs it for the whole domain from the admin console, by the extension ID. It's optional: anyone can also install it on their own.

Read the admin guide
Can I use it in an exam or an interview?

To coordinate with your co-interviewer, yes. To get help where you are expected to act alone (an exam, an interview where you are the candidate), no: the terms forbid it.

Still stuck?

Write to help@psst.team and tell us what happened. If it's a problem in a call, include what "Copy diagnostic" copies from the Psst icon.
